Meet the Majors a beloved mother missing for nearly a decade; a son once banished to the mountains of Arkansas, now self-exiled to the wilds of New York; a daughter constrained for goodness' sake; and a father, out of touch, hiding, lying, and holding a desperate secret. A single question haunts them all what happened to Marjorie Major?
When Marjorie inexplicably vanished, neighbors, friends, and family assumed that the monster that stole her away did not lurk outside her home, but lived within it.
Eight years later, her daughter Sally is awoken by an early morning phone call that thrusts the remaining Major family into turmoil, forcing them to relive the trauma and again confront the mystery. When they go to identify Marjorie’s remains, they find no reprieve from their grief, only more questions.
The family is cast into a chaotic sequence of events that exposes a deeper tenacity and courage than they had previously thought possible. With determination and a surprising commitment to hope, the family embarks on a bittersweet and cathartic journey that teaches them to love through the illusions.
Challenging their most tightly held beliefs, they find that sometimes fathers are not heroes or ogres, but just human beings; that you can’t take back choices that take root in the lives of others; and that in the war between religious freedom and human rights there is a sizable grey area full of lies, deceit, and hypocrisy.
In the end they are left with one final question Who would you become if you just risked telling the truth?

The Great Imitator eBook Colyer Reuthe Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. I only wish it were longer.
Wonderful! This book is a beautiful, thought provoking, page turner. A must read from a new author. I loved it!
The story shows how deception can damage lives and stunt relationships. It also shows how truth can reveal the light and change perceptions. I had to read it to the end in one day always wanting more when I had to put it down.
What an enriching and emotionally thrilling story. Family dynamics and personal growth are poignantly explored in the journey of the Majors. The mysteries and twists of the story had me hooked. I couldn't put the book down and was deeply satisfied at the end. The writer beautifully captures how pain, fear, and love intertwine to shape our lives. A great read that I must read again!
So much to offer for every reader of every background.
The Great Imitator is a beautifully written book that explores sensitive and difficult issues in a graceful yet powerful manner. Reuthe boldly and elegantly examines the many ways secrets and shame perpetuate division and distrust, often creating irreparable rifts in families as well as society at large. He presents a powerful narrative of "othering", and how individuals often will despise in others the characteristics they are most ashamed of. This subtext is all presented in such a compelling and well paced story that the deeper message is absorbed throughout, available for those who are open to it. Reuthe accomplishes this in the context of a very interesting, character driven book with unexpected and rewarding plot twists that provide for very enjoyable reading throughout, and nicely counterbalance the more serious underlying message. All in all, a delightful read.
Everyone has their secrets. This book explores those secrets and what they can do-not only to ourselves but the ones we love. The same story is told from multiple viewpoints providing a unique insight into each character. I cannot wait to read more from this author!
